My Aunt Matilda was always ahead of her time when it came to fashion. She would wear these spat boots even before it was super common for women to brandish them. That is until 1919 when she ran into Machine Gun Kelly, who was also wearing them! She told my great cousin that she was going to the boots a break. Oddly enough, shortly after, for a while in the 1920s, spats became synonymous with gangsters. Good thing she took a break. My aunt is no gangster!
