Fascinated by the lore surrounding mermaids, Aunt Matilda decided that she would write about these beautiful entities of the sea. She traveled to a far away icy tundra village in Greenland to meet someone who spoke to them. Aunt Matilda actually interviewed this man for 6 days and wrote 38 pages based on his interview before she exhaustedly left his cabin and traveled back to a local inn to rest. Upon arrival, she learned that in fact the man she was interviewing had never left his cabin in his life and had drank himself into a state of delusion. After realizing the she had believed every word, she simply reveled in the adventure that she had just had. She then hung this cast iron mermaid wall hanging in her home for many years as an inside joke to friends and family who knew this story.
