This honestly is one of my Aunt Matilda's most prized possessions. The story behind this jacket is of the most impressive! In 1859, my aunt traveled to the United Kingdom for the first time. To her surprise, the British felt that she was so well-mannered and beautiful that they allowed her into society. At a ball, she stubbled upon a gentleman and they spoke about their favorite authors. My aunt mentioned Mary Shelley and the gentleman mentioned that he off-handedly mentioned that attended her estate sale. Aunt Matilda stopped and asked what he ha collected. Included, was a jacket that he couldn't wear. They met a few days later and he was shocked when she pulled out her own money to pay him for it immediately! This coat has now become a fundamental element of my Aunt Matilda's wardrobe. You see this Victorian jacket and you immediately think of Matilda!
